Housing Services

The Housing Services Department provides rent geared-to-income assistance to over 2,000 residents of the County of Lambton.  In addition to administering the non-profit, co-operative and rent supplements program at 30 locations, the Housing Services Department provides property management for 771 owned units on 20 sites throughout the county.

In rent geared-to-income assisted housing, the tenant's portion of rent is calculated based on income levels.  The remainder of the rent owing is provided by the County of Lambton.

Affordable Housing Development

Through the Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Program the County of Lambton has been able to offer funding to not for profit and private developers for the creation of 37 rental and supportive affordable housing units.  In anticipation of additional capital funding through the Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Program the County of Lambton is seeking not for profit and private developers who may be interested in developing rental housing. Please see the Expression of Interest which explains the process and provides more detail.

Affordable Housing Strategy

Since 2001 The Corporation of the County of Lambton has been responsible to deliver and fund housing programs and to ensure there is an adequate affordable housing supply in Lambton County.  In 2005 the County hired SHS Inc. consultants to conduct an affordable housing study.  The overall goal was to develop a framework document that would assist the County in developing a Housing Strategy with short and long-term priorities for all communities within Lambton County.

The affordable housing study has resulted in three documents:

  1. The Housing Analysis which identifies housing gaps.
  2. The Affordable Housing Strategy which includes 38 recommendations.
  3. A Summary Document of the above.
