Wyoming, ON – The County of Lambton's Cultural Services Division recently learned it has received a grant of $20,000 from the Government of Ontario through the Creative Communities Prosperity Fund, to develop a Municipal Cultural Plan for the County of Lambton.
"The project will develop a framework to guide cultural development in Lambton County over the next five to ten years," said April James, General Manager, Cultural Services. "The end result will be a broad municipal cultural plan for the County that will serve as a basis to make recommendations on how culture can be better integrated into the municipal planning process."
Increasing attention is being placed on what is known as "creative communities" and municipalities are taking culture into account when undertaking planning exercises. "Lambton County is a community rich in cultural assets, such as libraries, heritage districts, museums and the arts," said James.
The County of Lambton is undertaking a Request for Proposal Process to select a consultant to develop the plan. It is anticipated it could take six months to complete and will be presented to Lambton County Council for its consideration.
The Creative Communities Prosperity Fund (CCPF) is made available through the Ontario Ministry of Tourism and Culture. CCPF helps municipalities and Aboriginal communities develop culture as a key part of their community and economic development strategies. It also supports not-for-profit organizations in delivering specific capacity building tools that enhance the cultural planning process.
