Ontario Works is designed to help people prepare for and find employment while providing financial help with necessities. There are many employment benefits and supports available to help individuals link to employment. Caseworkers work closely with people to develop individualized action plans that address each person's unique needs and goals. Caseworkers guide participants through each stage of the action plan, providing encouragement and resource options as individuals move towards their goals.
Employment supports are available for activities such as:
- Job search assistance - résumé writing and interview preparation
- Academic upgrading
- Training or skills development
- Connecting to volunteer and employment opportunities
Resources and programs
Ontario Works also offers specific resources and programs to support individuals in their path to employment:
- Lambton Works Centre (LWC) staff can help with resumes, cover letters, interview skills, job search techniques and more.
- Workshops and training programs are available that focus on areas such as personal growth, goal setting, career exploration, job search strategies and skills development.
- Learning, Earning and Parenting is a program for parents ages 16 to 24. Through this program parents work to complete their high school education, prepare for employment and build parenting skills. Upon successful completion of LEAP parents become eligible to receive an educational bursary.
- If you are interested in operating your own business there are supports through the Self-Employment program that may be available.
Employment benefits
In addition to employment supports, the Ontario Works oprovides participants with a number of employment benefits to assist them in finding and starting a job. We may be able to assist with costs such as transportation, childcare, course fees, uniforms and safety equipment.
