Payment arrangements can be made for the following circumstances:
- You have just been convicted of an offence and cannot pay the fine in full by the due date.
- The amount of time you were given to pay the fine is about to expire and you need an extension of time to pay.
- Your fine is over-due and you need an extension of time to pay.
If you have been convicted of an offence and are unable to pay the fine in full, you can make partial payments within the given timeframe to pay your fine. Pre-Authorized Debit Enrollment is available to set up automatic withdrawals from your bank account each month.
You can request an Extension of Time to Pay if the due date to pay off your fine is about to expire, or if the fine is already overdue. To apply, you will need to download, fill out, and submit the Extension Forms to our office at 150 N. Christina Street, Sarnia, Ontario. You can also fax the forms to us at 519-344-9379. Our office will then submit your application to a Justice of the Peace to review. The Justice of the Peace will either grant or deny your request and you will be notified by mail. If your request has been granted, you can start making monthly payments.
Things to know about non-payment of fines…
After a conviction occurs, a Notice of Fine and Due Date is sent out. At this point, the fine is approximately 45 days old. This notice provides a due date that the fine must be paid by. If you have not paid your fine on time, additional fees and enforcement will occur. Your fine may be placed with a collection agency, applied to your property taxes, enforced civilly, or your driver's licence may be suspended. If your driver's licence is suspended for non-payment of fines, the Ministry of Transportation charges a reinstatement fee of $281.00.
