Point Edward, ON - Lambton Public health (LPH) is urging the community to take action to slow the spread of COVID-19 as we move closer to the holiday season. Non-essential social interactions continue to be a main driver for the spread of COVID-19.

Recent contact tracing with COVID-19 cases in the community and investigations into workplace outbreaks indicates transmission continues to be primarily through exposure to close contacts.

"Limiting all non-essential social interactions and staying home when you are sick, even with mild symptoms, continues to be a priority," explains Dr. Sudit Ranade, Medical Officer of Health for Lambton County. "That applies to individuals and groups, including workplaces, and ensuring public health measures are also applied to add further protection."

Ranade adds, "Activities like workplace socials and gatherings with friends should not be happening at this point in the pandemic. We are asking families to stick to one household and if they need to see someone, be safe about it."

Lambton County is continuing to see daily COVID-19 case increases, with several contacts associated with each case. Outbreaks have increased recently in workplaces which results in more exposure, increased cases, and additional contacts. The strain on the health system is noticeable and vulnerable populations are impacted as we have seen again with more hospitalizations and recent deaths.

What you can do to prevent the spread of COVID-19:

  • Protect the most vulnerable and our community
  • Stay home if you are sick, even with mild symptoms
  • Limit non-essential social activities
  • If you need to see someone or do something, be safe about it.
  • Follow public health measures - in the community, at work, school and home

We all have a role to play to reduce the transmission of COVID-19. We are stronger when we all work together. If Lambton Public Health contacts you, be honest and understand that isolating close contacts is critical to slowing the spread of COVID-19.
