Point Edward, ON – Due to a significant decrease in demand, Lambton Public Health (LPH) will continue to offer COVID-19 vaccinations but will be closing down the mass community clinics in Point Edward, Forest and Wyoming at the end of March. The last scheduled mass vaccination clinics will be held on March 29 at the Point Edward Optimist Hall and March 31 at the Wyoming Fairgrounds. Both of these clinics may still be accessed by appointment or walk-in – all details at GetTheVaccine.ca.

High vaccination rates, relaxing provincial public health measures and declining hospitalization rates have all contributed to the decreased demand for vaccines. The closing of these fixed site community clinics at this time is a positive sign; it is a testament to the tireless efforts of our community partners, municipalities, public health staff and the hundreds of volunteers in our communities who have stepped up to support the vaccine roll-out from day one.

Access to the COVID-19 vaccine will still be widely available throughout the county through the following channels:

  • LPH Clinic (Main office) – Every Tuesday in April.
    • Scheduled appointments required – book online or call 519-383-8331 or toll free 1-800-667-1839.
    • Future pop-up clinics in rural communities – to be announced
  • Participating pharmacies may accept walk-ins or by appointment
  • Contact your primary health-care provider, some are offering COVID-19 Vaccines in office.

All clinic availability, including the COVID-19 vaccine opportunities for individuals aged 5-11 and their families, will continue to be updated at GetTheVaccine.ca.

The COVID-19 vaccine remains the best defense against severe outcomes from COVID-19. It is important for all eligible individuals to complete their full series of vaccines, including boosters, to help prevent the disease and reduce the burden on our health-care system.

Boosters are most important for those who are at risk due to age or other underlying health conditions – get boosted as soon as you are eligible. In Lambton County, over 96% of those age 70 and older have received 2 doses of the vaccine, and over 86% of individuals 70+ have received a third booster dose. Over 1,200 high risk eligible individuals such as residents of long term care have received a 4th dose.

Most residents in Lambton County are eligible for their booster doses now.  If you are 18 and over, you can schedule your booster dose appointment at an interval of three months (84 days) after your second dose. If you are aged 12 to 17, you can schedule your booster dose (Pfizer recommended) at an interval of six months (168 days) after a second dose. You must be at least 12 years old at the time of your appointment.

As our communities open more and provincial health restrictions are lifted, it is important to remember our well-practiced basic actions including staying home when you are sick, continuing to wear a mask in health care settings where they are still required, and getting vaccinated and boosted when you are able.
