Lambton County Warden Kevin Marriott, County of Lambton General Manager of Cultural Services Andrew Meyer, and Lambton Shores Mayor Bill Weber cut the ceremonial ribbon at the re-opening celebration for the Forest Library on Tuesday, May 3.

Forest, ON – A small crowd gathered in Forest on Tuesday afternoon to celebrate the reopening of the Forest Library, following renovation work that took place over the past five months. These renovations included new shelving, flooring, an accessible service desk, the addition of private meeting space and new paint throughout the building.

“We are proud to welcome the community back to the renovated Forest Library today,” said Warden Kevin Marriott, County of Lambton. “Our Cultural Services, including library services, provide great experiences for Lambton’s residents and this refreshed and more accessible space will be well used by the Lambton Shores community for years to come.”

While the County of Lambton provides library services including library materials, equipment, furnishings, programs and staff, the local municipalities provide the physical locations that house libraries. The Municipality of Lambton Shores owns the Forest Library and funded the cost of the new flooring throughout the space.

“The partnership between Lambton Shores and the County of Lambton has resulted in an enhanced space for our residents, and the new meeting space will create new opportunities for the community,” said Lambton Shores Mayor Bill Weber.

Included in the renovation project was the construction of a private meeting space that will be available for library programs, community use, and use by other government service agencies such as Lambton County Social Services. A portion of the costs to create the meeting space was funded by the Province of Ontario through the Municipal Modernization Program.

Forest Library houses more than 8,000 items, in addition to having access to Lambton County Library’s full collection of more than 200,000 items, and most items are available for borrowing with a Lambton County Library card. Library card membership is free to anyone who lives, works or studies in Lambton County and anyone living in a First Nations community. Items located at other libraries can also be reserved and transported to Forest Library for pickup.  Forest Library is open from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday – Thursday; 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Sunday. Lambton County Library membership also includes access to the library’s catalogue and a variety of electronic resources at www.lclibrary.ca.
