Adrianne Lebert, Public Services Coordinator– Adult Programs & Outreach, displays a One Seed Lambton tomato seed packet.

Wyoming, ON – Lambton County Library selects the Purple Cherokee Tomato for this year’s One Seed Lambton program. The Cherokee Purple Tomato is a highly productive heirloom, yielding large pink-purple fruits with a sweet, smoky flavour. Free seed packets will be available at all Lambton County Library locations beginning on March 10, while supplies last.

One Seed Lambton provides resources and free vegetable seeds to help anyone learn to grow food, from beginners to advanced.

Some of the upcoming One Seed Lambton programs and events include:

  • Now Showing – Coldwater Kitchen
    Thursday, March 27, 6:30 to 8:45 p.m.
    Sarnia Library Theatre
    A documentary about a culinary training program inside a Michigan prison. Winner of the 2023 James Beard Foundation Media Award for best documentary. 
  • Adult DIY – Vintage Seed Packet Planter
    Tuesday, April 1, 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
    Petrolia Library
  • Grow Your Food
    Wednesday, April 2, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
    Sarnia Library
    Learn about the benefits of growing food from heirloom or open-pollinated seeds with avid backyard gardener, Denis Leblanc, and biodiversity advocate, Rachelle Floin.
  • Preparing Your Garden
    Tuesday, April 22, 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
    Petrolia Library
    Learn how to start your garden from seed with Felicia from Sycamore Farms.
  • Adult DIY – Plant Exchange and Garden Stakes
    Tuesday, April 29, 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
    Petrolia Library
    Share plants, cuttings, bulbs or extra seedlings with fellow gardeners.
  • Native Plants and Pollinators
    Tuesday, May 13, 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.
    Corunna Library
    Learn about pollinators and native plants and how they can benefit your gardens. Presented by Dylan Henry of Maajigin Gumig.
  • Seed Saving with Michael Schimp
    Thursday, August 14, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
    Wyoming Library
    Learn how to save seeds for next year’s garden.

In addition to the One Seed Lambton program, Lambton County Library also offers a Seed Library with over 60 vegetable and flower seeds available for borrowing. Visit lclibrary.ca/seedlibrary to see the collection.
