Update on Lakeshore Road (County Road 7) reconstruction

Motorists and cyclists are reminded that Lakeshore Road (County Road 7) is closed for reconstruction between Modeland Road and Telfer Road. Please use the posted detour route and drive safely.

Construction is progressing well - the contractor remains on schedule and the project is expected to be completed in mid-September, weather permitting. Project staff would like to thank all residents for their continued patience and cooperation throughout the duration of this project.

Visit lambtononline.ca/construction for updates, and Municipal511.ca for current road closure information.

HHW Collection Events

Bring your household derived hazardous waste to one of the upcoming Household Hazardous Waste Day events and it will be disposed of by experts, at no cost to you!

Household Hazardous Waste Day events will be held at Clean Harbours Canada, 4090 Telfer Road, St. Clair Township from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on the following remaining dates for the 2021 season:

  • Saturday, September 25
  • Saturday, October 30

Corrosive, toxic, reactive and flammable materials will be collected. These items should never be placed in a regular landfill because they have the potential to injure sanitation workers and damage our environment.

Examples of these types of materials include:

Corrosive - Batteries, Drain Cleaners, Oven Cleaners
Toxic - Pesticides, Rat Poison, Cleaning Fluids, Pharmaceuticals
Reactive - Pool Chemicals, Ammonia, Bleach, Aerosols
Flammable - Gasoline, Paints, BBQ Starter, Oils, Solvents, Propane Cylinders

Items NOT accepted include: PCBs, commercial, industrial or radioactive wastes, electronics and explosives (flares and ammunition).

In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, event attendees are asked to follow physical distancing protocols, including:

  • Packaging materials in disposable containers (i.e. cardboard boxes) as the containers will not be returned;
  • Placing materials in the trunk or back of your vehicle to maximize distancing for event staff when collecting items; and
  • Remaining in your vehicle at all times, as event staff will be removing materials from your vehicle.

For more information visit lambtononline.ca/hhw or call 519-845-0801.

Shelter-In-Place

When an incident involves the release of dangerous chemicals, emergency officials often advise residents within a specified area to go indoors and stay indoors.

This is because, when dealing with a chemical release, it’s often safer for people to remain inside than trying to leave by walking or driving out of the affected area and exposing themselves to dangerous chemicals in the air.

If you are advised by emergency officials to go indoors during a chemical emergency (often referred to as “Shelter-in-Place”), please stay inside for your own protection.  Most buildings will seal well enough to hold sufficient air to last several hours – often long enough for vapours in the air to dissipate.

In the event of an emergency, safety sirens located in portions of Sarnia, St. Clair, Point Edward and Aamjiwnaang First Nation will sound to alert residents.  If you hear the sirens, go indoors and tune in to a local radio station for information and instructions.

For more information about sheltering in place, visit EmergenciesLambton.ca or LambtonBASES.ca.

Lambton County Library reopens all 25 locations

Lambton County Library will reopen all 25 locations beginning September 7, 2021. After initially closing in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, only 16 locations reopened in the summer and fall of 2020 for curbside pickup service and scheduled appointments to ensure a high standard of safety for employees and patrons.

Lambton County Library is now in a position to safely reopen the remaining nine locations for curbside pickup service, scheduled appointments for computer use, wi-fi use, academic study and in-person browsing as capacity limits allow. These nine locations include: Arkona, Camlachie, Courtright, Inwood, Mooretown, Port Franks, Port Lambton, Shetland and Wilkesport.

As part of the library’s COVID-19 protocols, all visitors over the age of two must wear masks/face coverings, no food or drink is permitted, computer appointments are limited to 45 minutes once daily, patrons browsing are asked to spend no more than 45 minutes in the library, and capacity limits are in effect at all sites.

Starting September 7, 2021, Lambton County Library will also be adjusting its hours of operation to better align with community needs.
