Lambton Paramedics honoured with Governor General’s Exemplary Service Medal

Lambton EMS paramedics Ann Miller, Matt Charlton, Ali Ataellahi, Joe Emilio, and Shane Kinaert have been awarded the Governor General’s Exemplary Service Medal.

The medals were presented on October 3 at the Ontario Association of Paramedic Chiefs Gala Banquet by Brigadier General Forestier, Director General of the Canadian Forces Health Service, on behalf of Governor General Mary Simon.

As part of the Canadian Honours Programme, the Governor General makes available Exemplary Service Medals for EMS professionals. The award recognizes those professionals who have performed their duties in an exemplary manner, characterized by the highest standards of good conduct, industry and efficiency. To qualify, at least ten of these years of service must have been street level duty involving potential risk to the individual.

“Lambton EMS has an exceptional team of skilled and dedicated paramedics” stated Andrew Taylor, General Manager Public Health Services Division. “On behalf of the County of Lambton, we are truly proud of the accomplishments of our Exemplary Service Medal recipients for performing their duties in an exemplary manner, and in recognition of their achievements and ongoing contributions to our community.”

Emergencies Lambton: Navigating Cyber-Attacks

Cyber-attacks have become increasingly common in both the public and private sectors. Criminals use unauthorized access or malicious code to alter computer logic or data.

Cyber-attacks can also include the deployment of "ransomware" where the end goal is not usually to expose personal information but rather to block access to certain operations or servers, which are held hostage.

As a result, many organizations are taking steps to strengthen their networks and other digital assets.

If a cyber-attack were to occur in a municipality, staff may encounter difficulties accessing and providing information you have requested, administering reservations and bookings, accepting and providing payments, and communicating electronically. During these incidents, residents should be prepared to speak with municipal staff by phone, expect longer processing times, and follow up on expected payments.

For more information and to learn about how to be prepared in case of an emergency, visit EmergenciesLambton.ca.
