The County of Lambton has several Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection events each year, in partnership with Clean Harbours Canada Inc.
These events let Lambton County residents get rid of potentially dangerous waste from their homes in a safe way. Throwing out hazardous products with regular garbage can injure sanitation workers and cause long-term damage to the environment.
Household Hazardous Waste collection events
Due to safety concerns surrounding COVID-19, operational changes have been implemented to ensure the safety of the public and the event staff. Event attendees are asked to follow physical distancing protocols, including the following:
1. Package materials in disposable containers (i.e. cardboard boxes) as they will not be returned;
2. Place materials in the truck or back of their vehicle to maximize distancing for event staff when collecting items; and
3. Remain in their vehicle at all times, as event staff will be removing materials from their vehicle.
You can bring your household derived hazardous waste to the below events for disposal by experts, at no cost to you. All events will be held at the Clean Harbors Lambton Facility at 4090 Telfer Road, St. Clair Township, from 9 am to 2 pm. See upcoming dates below.

Expired marine flares
Clean Harbours will not accept expired flares through the County's HHW program, as explosives are on the list of unacceptable items.
Flares (pyrotechnics) are only valid for four years from the manufacture date, which is stamped on each flare.
Lambton OPP recommends boaters keep expired flares in a sealed plastic bag beneath new flares. These expired flares may still work in a time of emergency, although they may have lost some of their certified range. They will provide a back-up, should the new flares fail to attract the attention of others in an emergency.
