Lambton County is responsible for providing waste disposal facilities to receive and dispose of municipal solid waste (MSW) generated by the local municipalities.

The County-owned Dawn Landfill continues to operate and accept MSW. The County also utilizes the privately-owned Twin Creeks Landfill in the Township of Warwick for disposal needs and has a long-term agreement with Waste Management of Canada ensuring the County has disposal capacity up to 2035 for MSW generated by the local municipalities.

Active Facilities

Dawn Landfill

The Dawn Landfill site is located at 4084 Langbank Line in the Township of Dawn-Euphemia, approximately 2.5 km west of County Road 21 (Oil Heritage Road).

The 36 acre site opened in 1972 has a landfill area of 14 acres. Currently, the site receives and disposes of waste according to the terms and conditions outlined in Certificate of Approval (CofA) No. A032502 issued by the Ministry of the Environment, dated December 19, 1996.

Hours

DayTime
Tuesday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Access to the site will be restricted 30 minutes before the site closes each day.

Accepted Items

Lambton County residents can dispose of household and commercial waste at the Dawn Landfill.

The site attendant has the right to limit access and items to be disposed of in the landfill.

You must separate waste materials, tires and recyclable waste materials like cans, glass, plastics and newsprint and place them in the marked bins.

You must tag white goods (refrigerators, air conditioners, etc.) indicating the CFC's have been removed before they are accepted.

We do not accept the following items:

  • Liquid or hazardous waste
  • Liquid industrial waste
  • Field stones or concrete
  • Tree stumps or limbs
  • Dead animals or animal waste
  • Ashes

Fees

  • $50.00 per metric tonne
  • $18.00 per cubic yard

Certain items face additional fees to cover extra disposal costs. These include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Passenger car tires (without rim): $2.50 per tire
  • Passenger car tires (with rim): $5.00 per tire

The site operator determines tipping fees based on the weight or size of the load delivered for disposal and the current County fee structure.

Closed Facilities

In 1991, the County took ownership of six existing waste disposal facilities that were previously operated by the local municipalities of Brooke, Dawn, Grand Bend, Moore, Sarnia and Sombra.

The County closed five of these facilities. Ongoing environmental monitoring and post-closure care continues as outlined in the respective Certificates of Approval (CofA's).
